Health Concerns for Teens in the United States

  1. Drug Abuse-

According to a study about 30 percent of America’s adult’s rate drug abuse as severe problems for the children in the country. Drug abuse is the second problem for the children in the United States of America since the year 2007. Even though the rates of the illegal drug among teens have been reducing over the past few years. The most common drug abuse among the teen is marijuana, inhalants, alcohol and over-the-counter and even prescription medications.

  1. Internet Safety-

Internet safety is estimated by 31 percent of the U.S adults expressing their concern over the issue, has increased from 15 to 27 percent in the year 2008. The internet is the most fun place to be and is the most informative place, but it is also a dangerous place. All the concerns are raising with internet predators and internet addiction and identity theft to cyberbullying. It is essential to keep limit for their teens while using the internet and to be aware of what they are doing online.

 

  1. Smoking-

Since the year 2007 smoking is about 32 percent of the United States adults rating as a significant issue for young people. It has shown that about 4.5 million U.S teens are cigarette smokers. Every day about 6000 children under the age of 18 start smoking and at least one-third of the youth become regular smokers. Smoking cigarette during your childhood and teens causes significant health problems that include increased respiratory illnesses and even decreased physical fitness and also potential retardation in lung growth and lung function.

  1. Childhood Obesity-

Childhood obesity still outranks all the health issues as the number one concern for the children in the United States of America. While only 35 percent of the adult population believe that childhood obesity as a significant issue in the year 2008 and that number has increased to 42 percent in the year 2009. In the first time in the U.S all the ethnic groups such as the Hispanic, white, black have agreed that obesity is rising concern facing American children.  The childhood obesity rates have tripled in the last 25 years, causing many children with diseases like to a report in Academic Pediatrics. Overweight and obese children will also experience a lowered quality of life, an increased likelihood of contracting several severe disorders and even a reduction in life expectancy.

  1. Bullying-

Bullying is about 31 percent of u.s adult’s primary issue in confronting children and teens. According to a study about one-third of all the United States youth are involved in bullying, either by being a victim or a perpetrator or both. According to the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry reports that as many as half of all children are bullied in school and about one in 10 are facing ongoing harassment issues.
